Saturday the 16th of November. Somerset West Floods. We (ALL) woke up at 4h30 to take hubby to the start of the Winelands marathon (which he was really looking forward to) only to be flooded in on both sides of our complex! We later heard, Vergelegen was flooded – the hospital across the road from us. Numerous ‘people’ were flooded. I awaited the call from Mum, Jacolien, to cancel Lisa’s party. Needless to say, she never cancelled, and thankfully the water subsided by the time I needed to leave! It rained ALL day, so Lisa and her little buds had to play and celebrate indoors! I’m not sure they noticed! With Cake and Flings, who would care, anyway! 😉 Many thanks to Jacolien and Chris for the support 🙂 May your beautiful Lisa bring you endless joy!
I was very honoured when Karen, Mieke’s mom, called me to photograph Mieke’s very first birthday! I did Mom’s maternity shoot and little Mieke’s newborn shoot! Wow, I couldn’t believe that one whole year had passed, and she has turned into the most adorable little girl! She has the most amazing blue eyes and such a wonderful calm personality. Besides bursting into tears from the big sparkler on her cake, she had a ball! 😉
I was woken at 4h20am. It was my brother (on the phone). “Sam’s in labour and progressing quickly. I think you should make your way to the hospital”. It was record timing, both Craig and I, ready and off in 20 minutes!
We arrived at the hospital at 5am.
So you are now pregnant. THE rollercoaster has begun! Yeehaa! Ever thought of professionally Photographing your precious new Baby’s Birth Day? I hadn’t. Not until I had my daughter six months ago. It never occurred to me in the slightest. In fact, I was slightly repelled by the idea! I really didn’t fancy the idea of someone taking picture of my ‘you know what’!! With me on that? I came across some professionally done Birth photographs whilst scouting around on the net one day. They were anything but the horrid, gory, graphic pictures I had imagined. They scared the life out of me, I will admit. But they were beautiful. So beautiful. They captured the amazing essence of what was about to happen. They captured a new life. A new breathe. They were simply amazing. No gory bits… just pure emotion. I gave Birth to my Daughter, Eva, on the 10th of April 2012. Although I never had a professional Birth Photographer, I did have a very willing Doula on hand. Robyn Hertog. Although her role as my Doula required other duties, I still handed her my camera – with very strict instructions. No ‘down there’ s! At all! I bet she was […]
The Birth of Baby Eva Elizabeth 10 April 2012 The 2nd of April came and went – our due date. As each day passed (although I knew it to be fairly common to go overdue) the anxiety and suspense escalated still. Now there was a definite unknown… when? Our Doctor, Dr D. Schneider had spoken to us about his plans to go away for two weeks (of which was right over my due date) and the possibility of an induction on the 10th when he returned. That would be eight days overdue. I was never concerned; I never believed I would go overdue, not for a second. Time when by. The start of my birth plan already changed… The realisation of an induction loomed. I was scared out of my mind – I knew, with an induction, that labour could be a lot more intense and there was a real possibility of failure and a resulting caesarean section. Dr had assured me that they would not induce if things were not favourable – yet I still feared it! Deep down, I feared labour actually, to the absolute deepest part of me. I felt that if it happened on its own […]
