14:35, tomorrow, marks the twelfth month since we held you in our arms for the very first time. We named you Eva Elizabeth – mostly because both your Father and I like the name but for me it meant a little more. ‘Eva’ holds the meaning ‘Giver of Life’. In the past year, you have given me life. You have taught me what it means to be alive. Life is no longer about how good I am or how good I could be. It is about you and our lives with you.
I want nothing more for you, than for you to be happy! That’s it. I will climb the highest mountain, catch a falling star or merely sing and dance just to see you smile! There is one thing in your life right now that makes you the happiest. That is your Daddy. You wait up for him at night, even if it is as late as 10pm! You and him – you have something so very special. I am convinced you bonded on your Birth Day. He held you so very tight. He has never let you go. I hope your love for one another continues to grow and grow.
Me on the other hand, I have completely and utterly fallen in love with you. You are calm and so very sweet. You are gentle and kind. It is so true. I cannot believe that you are mine and that I have been given such a beautiful soul to nurture and grow. It is beyond me.
You amaze me every day. You started walking – really good now. Although, you do much prefer to crawl! You now understand what ‘Ta’ means. You follow it through as long as we ‘Ta’ it back to you! We could play the game for hours. You wave hello and goodbye, for real this time! You even wave goodbye to Teletubbies and your books before you go to bed!
You have a little playmate. She lives right next door and is two and a half years old. I caught you chatting across the balcony the other day. I was flabbergasted. You cannot talk yet but you somehow managed to communicate with her and her with you. She loves to make you laugh.

Your first birthday has been and gone. Wow time flies! We had a fantastic time! I am posting some pictures for you.
You are moving around like crazy now. You even manage to get up all the stairs, with quite a speed too! Coming down is a different story – you are very cautious. It is good. You think about things before following through. Even going outside, with a slight step, you will get on hands and knees, turn around and go feet first.
I’ve realised that you get bored easily. Oops, my bad! It MUST be my trait you inherited! We had your Granny’s and Grandpa’s come visit for your birthday. You were in your element, even as far as staying up until 10pm at night! You love people. You love talking. You love playing with other kids, particularly ones a little older than you. You love it when your cousin Ashton bounces up and down. He has you in stitches! It is just too cute and funny to see.
Your first proper word that you spoke to us was Hello. Well, actually it was ‘Hey-yo’! Of course, we knew what you were saying. Now, you have progressed to saying ‘No’. Everything is ‘No no no’. We now realise that every second word we speak to you is ‘No’! No wonder.
Recently, you have developed an excitement dance. It’s a ‘stamp your feet, turning around in a circle with a slight squeal’ dance. You do it mostly when Daddy gets home. I giggle so. We noticed that you are in your element when both your Daddy and I are home with you. Nothing makes us happier.
My darling, a smile on your face is all we need!
Thank you for what you bring to us.
